Pot folds

Everyone antes and gets a handful of cards. The flop comes out, and then there's one decision: pay the pot to see the turn and river, or fold.

How a pot fold works

  1. Everyone antes the amount the host sets. There are no blinds.
  2. Everyone gets four to six cards, as many as the deck allows for the players at the table.
  3. The flop comes straight out, with no betting before it.
  4. One round of betting, on the flop. Each player in turn either pays the pot as it stands, or folds. Nobody can raise.
  5. The turn and river come out together for everyone who paid.
  6. The best hand wins, using exactly two of your cards and three from the board, as in Omaha.
Six players ante 10, so the pot is 60. The first player pays 60 to stay in, making it 120. The next must pay 120, or fold. The pot grows fast, so it pays to be sure.

Why it's fun

With five or six cards each, everyone has something on the flop. The pot doubles with every caller, so a pot fold is all about reading the board: is your hand likely to be best, or are you paying for a draw that someone else has beaten?

When they're dealt

Like bomb pots, a pot fold can come every so many hands, when the host deals one, or when a player asks and the host or the table agrees. The dealer button stays put for it.
